Apuntes para el comportamiento económico y social del mercado de esclavos en Santiago de Cuba entre (1820-1842)

Abstract

El mercado de esclavos fue componente esencial del acontecer histórico de la sociedad colonial cubana desde la segunda década del siglo XVI. Además no fue sólo parte de la vida económica, con todos los hombres, medios de transporte y capitales invertidos en torno a él, sino que pasó a instituir un elemento de la vida diaria de la Isla de Cuba. Por consiguiente en esta investigación que lleva como título: Apuntes para el comportamiento económico y social del mercado de esclavos en Santiago de Cuba (1820-1842). Se tratara de determinar este comportamiento del mercado esclavista, a través de un análisis de los principales indicadores que lo caracterizaron. Además de determinar de qué manera estos indicadores incidieron en la fluctuación de los precios de los negros esclavos en compraventas en la ciudad de Santiago de Cuba. Por otra parte se analizaran los procesos de compraventas de esclavos, con sus compradores y vendedores, que hicieron de este negocio un eslabón fundamental para el desarrollo de la economía de Santiago de Cuba. Lo que propiciaría que en el transcurrir del siglo XIX el mercado de esclavos tuviera un impacto económico social en dicha región santiaguera. Por todo lo planteado se pretende en esta investigación un acercamiento a las peculiaridades de las compraventas de los negros esclavos, como característica fundamental del mercado de esclavos en la ciudad de Santiago de Cuba, durante el convulso período de 1820-1842, contribuyendo a llenar un vacío existente hoy en día en nuestra historia regional y local.

The market of slaves was component essential of happening historical of the Cuban colonial society from the second decade of the XVI century. It was not also only part of the economic life, with all the men, means of transport and capitals invested around him, but rather it passed to institute an element of the daily life of the Island of Cuba. Consequently in this investigation that takes as title: Point for the economic and social behavior of the market of slaves in Santiago from Cuba (1820-1842). It was to determine this behavior of the pro-slavery market, through an analysis of the main indicators that characterized it. Besides determining these indicators impacted in the fluctuation of the prices of the black slaves in sales and purchases in the city of Santiago from Cuba of what way. On the other hand the processes of slaves' sales and purchases were analyzed, as well as to those that were in charge of it, in this case buyers and slaves' salespersons that made of this business a fundamental link for the development of the economy of Santiago from Cuba. What would propitiate that in lapsing of the XIX century the market of slaves it had a social economic impact in this region santiaguera. For all that outlined it is sought in this investigation an approach to the peculiarities of the sales and purchases of the black slaves, as fundamental characteristic of the market of slaves in the city of Santiago from Cuba, during the convulse period of 1820- 1842, and this way to contribute to fill a hole existent today in day in our regional and local history.
