Apuntes para la historia de las haciendas cafetaleras en la zona oeste de la jurisdicción de Santiago de Cuba entre (1840-1868)

Abstract

El tema relacionado con la historia de los franceses, el café, y las haciendas del cultivo de este grano han motivado a diferentes historiadores a realizar investigaciones referentes a este tema. Tal es el caso de este trabajo de diploma realizado que pretende realizar análisis del incremento que tuvieron las haciendas cafetaleras en la zona oeste de la jurisdicción de Santiago de Cuba en el desarrollo cafetalero local entre 1840-1868. Si bien la zona no fue predominante en las primeras décadas del siglo XIX, posteriormente los datos estadísticos de la época (censos, padrones, etcétera) revelan que existía un elevado número de propiedades cafetaleras. Mientras que en otras partes la tendencia era que el número de haciendas disminuyera, en la zona oeste aumentaban o se mantenían estables; lo que finalmente da la medida que era una zona importante para la plantación cafetalera en la segunda mitad del siglo XIX. De esta manera el tema del presente trabajo es: Apuntes para la historia de las haciendas cafetaleras en el oeste de la jurisdicción de Santiago de Cuba entre los años 1840-1868. Este aborda la extensión territorial de las haciendas, los procesos de compraventas, sus vías de comunicación y algunos datos de la producción de estas haciendas, de manera que contribuye al estudio del café en esta localidad y en la región oriental.

The topic related with the history of the French, the coffee, and the country properties of the cultivation of this grain have motivated different historians to carry out relating investigations to this topic. Such it is the case of this work of carried out diploma that he/she seeks to carry out analysis of the increment that had the coffee country properties in the area west of the jurisdiction of Santiago from Cuba in the local coffee development among 1840-1868. Although the area was not predominant in the first decades of the XIX century, later on the statistical data of the time (censuses, censuses, etc.) they reveal that a high number of coffee properties existed. While in other parts the tendency was that the number of country properties diminished, in the area west they increased or they stayed stable; that that finally gives the measure that was an important area for the coffee plantation in the second half of the XIX century. This way the topic of the present work is: Point for the history of the coffee country properties in the west of the jurisdiction of Santiago from Cuba among the years 1840-1868. This approaches the territorial extension of the country properties, the processes of sales and purchases, their communication roads and some data of the production of these country properties, so that it contributes to the study of the coffee in this town and in the oriental region.
