Características de la Delegación del Centro Gallego en Santiago de Cuba (1933-1961)

Abstract

A pesar del rol desempeñado por la presencia gallega dentro de la inmigración española en Santiago de Cuba, en especial en el crecimiento demográfico y el desarrollo económico y cultural del territorio, las investigaciones realizadas en torno a este colectivo han ponderado su desempeño laboral y asociativo en el período de 1902 a 1933, aun cuando las fuentes documentales, periodísticas y testimoniales insisten en demostrar que posteriormente a esta fecha, su desempeño fue esplendoroso, en especial en el orden de la sociabilidad. De ahí el origen de la presente investigación, dedicada a las características de la Delegación del Centro Gallego en Santiago de Cuba entre los años de 1933 a 1961, que permita un acercamiento a lo que fue la vida del inmigrante gallego en este territorio, al mismo tiempo que contribuye a la conformación de una visión historiográfica más acabada del proceso asociativo, gallego, español y santiaguero en sentido general.

Despite the role played by the Galician presence within the Spanish immigration in Santiago de Cuba, especially in the demographic growth and the economic and cultural development of the territory, the investigations carried out around this group have pondered their work and associative performance in the period from 1902 to 1933, even though the documentary, journalistic and testimonial sources insist on demonstrating that after this date, their performance was splendid, especially in the order of sociability. Hence the origin of the present investigation, dedicated to the characteristics of the Delegation of the Galician Center in Santiago de Cuba between the years 1933 to 1961, which allows an approach to what was the life of the Galician immigrant in this territory, at the same time that contributes to the conformation of a more finished historiographic vision of the associative process, Galician, Spanish and santiaguero in general sense.
