La inmigración gallega. Un a acercamiento a su estudio en la ciudad de Santiago de Cuba (1902-1933)

Abstract

La presente investigación se propone realizar un acercamiento al tema de la inmigración gallega en la ciudad de Santiago de Cuba durante el período de 1902-1933, que será uno de los territorios que reciba gallegos a partir de la segunda mitad del siglo XIX y fundamentalmente en los primeros treinta años republicanos. Aborda cuestiones que van desde lo general a lo particular, de ahí que incluya un balance sobre las causas generales que tanto por parte del polo emisor como el receptor propiciaron la presencia gallega en el espacio geográfico de estudio durante el período referido; así como los rasgos distintivos que la definirán que comprende desde la caracterización por procedencia, edad, sexo, estado civil, descendencia, actividades económicas en las que se insertaron, así como su labor de asistencia médica. El principal propósito de la obra que se presenta, amén de su objetivo científico, es contribuir al conocimiento y divulgación de la inmigración gallega en esta urbe, a partir del valioso aporte que ello constituye para el enriquecimiento de la historia local y regional; así como de las raíces culturales y su influencia en la formación de la identidad santiaguera.

The present investigation intends to approach the topic of the Galician immigration in the city of Santiago from Cuba during the period of 1902-1933, that will be one of the territories that bigger quantity of Galicians receives starting from the second half of the XIX century and fundamentally in the first thirty republican years. It approaches questions that go from the general thing to the particular thing, with the result that it includes a balance on the general causes that so much on the part of the issuing pole as the receiver propitiated the Galician presence in the geographical space of study during the referred period; as well as the distinctive features that will define it that he/she understands from the characterization for origin, age, sex, civil state, descendant, the economic activities in those that were inserted as well as their assistance work. The main purpose of the work that shows up, amen of their scientific objective, it is to contribute to the knowledge and popularization of the Galician immigration in this city, starting from the valuable contribution that it constitutes it for the enrichment of the local and regional history; as well as of the cultural roots and their influence in the formation of the identity.
