La inmigración asturiana en la ciudad de Santiago de Cuba (1902-1933)

Abstract

La presente investigación se propone realizar un acercamiento al tema de la inmigración asturiana en la ciudad de Santiago de Cuba (1902- 1933), a través del estudio de las principales características sociales y económicas de dicho grupo étnico. Aborda cuestiones que abarcan desde lo general a lo particular, de ahí que trasluce una aproximación a los factores condicionantes que tanto desde el polo emisor como del receptor propiciaron su representación en el espacio geográfico de estudio durante el citado período; así como las características sociodemográficas, las actividades económicas y el desempeño de una sociedad de recreo y sport, que a pesar de tener una vida efímera, tributó al comportamiento asociativo del componente hispano en la urbe santiaguera. Persigue el enriquecimiento de la historia local santiaguera en tanto constituye el primer trabajo de esta índole, ello instituye un elemento fundamental para construir una visión totalizadora sobre la inmigración española en la región.

This research aims to make an approach to the issue of immigration in the Asturian city of Santiago de Cuba (1902-1933), through the study of the major social and economic characteristics of this ethnic group. Addresses issues ranging from the general to the particular, hence betrays an approach to the environmental factors that both the sender and recipient polo led to its representation in the geographical area of study during that period; and sociodemographic characteristics, economic activities and performance of a society of recreation and sport, which despite having a short life tribute to the associative behavior of the Hispanic component in Santiago city. Pursuing the enrichment of local history while Santiago is the first work of this kind, it establishes a fundamental to build a totalizing vision of Spanish immigration in the region element.
