Etnofarmacología de la Hibiscus rosa-sinensis (mar pacífico) en la Comunidad Palmarito del Cauto, Mella, Santiago de Cuba
Resumen
Se realizó un estudio etnofarmacológico con un enfoque cualitativo y cuantitativo en la población de Palmarito de Cauto, del municipio Mella, Santiago de Cuba, con el objetivo de caracterizar el uso medicinal de la especie Hibiscus rosa-sinensis (mar pacífico). Se utilizó una entrevista semiestructurada aplicándose como instrumento. La información se obtuvo de 104 entrevistados: 67,30% mujeres y 32,7% hombres. Se realizó una caracterización de las condiciones geográficas, climáticas y de la vegetación de dicha comunidad. La muestra se seleccionó a través de un muestreo aleatorio no probabilístico. Las variables sociodemográficas incluyeron: nivel de escolaridad, ocupación, sexo y edad, donde el grupo etáreo más entrevistado correspondió a los mayores de 60 años, el nivel de escolaridad bachiller el más representado (48,07%). Por otro lado la etnofarmacológica se circunscribió a los aspectos relacionados con el uso de la especie, partes de la planta utilizadas, formas de preparación, vías de administración, dosificación y la procedencia. Tienen conocimiento de la especie todas personas y de estos 56 la utilizan. Las flores fueron la parte de la planta más utilizada y la decocción como la vía de administración más citada. Se calcularon dos indicadores: Índice de Valor de Uso con un resultado de 0,86 y Nivel de Uso Significativo con 54. La actividad antimicrobiana y antidiabética o hipoglicemiante fueron de las que más reportes científicos presentaron, permitiendo la validación de la utilización de esta planta por la población en el tratamiento de la diarrea, infecciones del tracto urinario y la diabetes. An ethnopharmacological study was carried out with a qualitative and quantitative approach in the population of Palmarito de Cauto, Mella municipality, Santiago de Cuba, with the aim of characterizing the medicinal use of the Hibiscus rosa-sinensis species (mar pacífico). A semi-structured interview was used as an instrument, the information was obtained from 104 interviewees: 67.30% women and 32.7% men. A characterization of the geographical, climatic and vegetation conditions of said community was carried out. The sample was selected through a non-probabilistic random sampling. Sociodemographic variables included: level of education, occupation, sex, and age. Where the age group most interviewed corresponded to those over 60 years of age, the level of high school education the most represented (48.07%). On the other hand, ethnopharmacology was limited to aspects related to the use of the species, parts of the plant used, forms of preparation, routes of administration, dosage and origin. All people are aware of the species and these 56 use it. The flowers being the part of the plant most used and the decoction as the most cited route of administration. Two indicators were calculated: Use Value Index with a result of 0.86 and Significant Use Level with 54. The antimicrobial and antidiabetic or hypoglycemic activity were among those that presented the most scientific reports, allowing the validation of the use of this plant by the population in the treatment of diarrhea, urinary tract infections and diabetes.
